If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times...I love to play! Experimenting with different artistic techniques
is my favorite pastime. These are a few of the mediums I've toyed with lately...
Pottery/Ceramics
From traditional, wheel thrown bowls and cups to more organic, free-form sculptures and tiles, this continues to be one of
my favorite mediums to experiement with. A big "thank you" to Jeremy South for the instruction and guidance! If you are
looking for pottery classes, workshops or demos you can contact Jeremy at claymansouth@gmail.com.
Hand-Made "Junk" Journals 2009
As I mentioned below, I have been wanting to try making some journals from scratch so I finally jumped in and did some!
These are my first few attempts. The covers and many of the
inside pages are created from recycled (junk!) materials such as cereal boxes, magazine pages and flyers.
Hand Covered Journals
I couldn't quite decide how to "classify" these as I was sorting the images I wanted to feature on this site. Although technically these
would be considered "Mixed Media" in my mind they are more functional than artistic, or at least a blend of those things. Anyhow, here
they are! Although I would love to explore creating entire journals from
scratch, these were made using pre-existing, blank journals. Most have been sold, with the exception of one or two, I hope to be
creating new ones in the near future. Generally they are available for purchase in the gift shop at
Sugar Creek Art Center but occasionally I have one or two at my home studio as well.
Potpourri
The rest of the "Other Art" is shown here. Starting with three images of Christmas ornaments from December 2008.
These were made using the same process as my new mixed media pieces. They ended up being very popular at holiday sales, the remaining
few were given as gifts to family and friends. It was fun being creative in a different way while using the same materials. I also have included
images of some of the hanging wire art I have created lately. I enjoy working with metal and wire, it has been showing up
in a lot of my art lately! These pieces are available for purchase at my home studio and in the gift shop at
Sugar Creek Art Center. Lastly a few images of mosaic work that I
have done. As I said, I love to play!
