Mixed Media is such a wide-open area to explore! The term is used to describe any works composed of more than one media. Artists began to use mixed media in the early 1900's and since that time it has become widespread, opening attitudes about the media of art. Essentially art can be made of anything or any combination of things. What a freeing definition to have when creating art - anything goes! I find creating, experimenting and combining items from so many different sources intriguing. Below are some of the results from my explorations.

Newest Work

This series is created using thin aluminum that is mounted onto various shapes, embossed, colored with inks and then assembled in compositions, often in combination with wire and other metal objects. Each piece has been professionally framed (with the exception of the "Abstract" series wall sculptures). See description for size and pricing information.

"Mini" Art

These pieces were created using the same process as described above but in a much smaller format. Each piece is mounted in a 5x7" black shadow box (white pieces have white boxes) that can either hang on the wall or be displayed on a shelf. Great for small spaces, small budgets and gifts!

Other New Mixed Media Work

Mixed Media "Boxes"

The first two pieces in this series were created during a non-traditional printmaking workshop that explored alternate printmaking processes combined with mixed media collage. It was held at St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City, Nevada in the summer of 2007. St. Mary's is a wonderfully restored 1875 building in a history-rich mining town located in the mountains of Nevada. The instructor for our class, Candace Nicol made the experience an awesome one! We made art from morning well into the night and also enjoyed some fabulous meals during this 5-day workshop. A perfect blend! The class was a perfect size for learning and I have kept in contact with several of my classmates since that time. It was very beautiful there, and so different from Indiana. My last day I was able to take a tour around Lake Tahoe, enjoying and photographing the gorgeous scenery! I was not ready to come back home when it ended. I learned so much and have used what I learned on several projects since my return, including the ones show here.

Other Mixed Media

A selection of other mixed media works, both in series and singular pieces from the past few years. Includes works on canvas, canvas panels, wood blocks, encaustic creations and a series created using old 33 1/3 albums.
